COMITES IN THE WORLD OF ITALIANS ABROAD
THE COMITES - Italian Committees Abroad.
I Com.It.Es. are representative bodies of the community, directly elected by Italians residing abroad in each consular district where at least 3 thousand compatriots reside; even in reality where fewer than 3,000 Italian citizens live, the Committees can be appointed by the diplomatic-consular authority.
I Com.It.Es. are composed of 12 members to 18 members, depending on whether they are elected in Consular Districts with a number less than or greater than 100 thousand resident compatriots , as they result from the updated list used to elect the representatives to the national Parliament.
The lists, each bearing its own identification, are presented by one of the candidates or by a subscriber, accompanied by the required documentation. Those elected remain in office for 5 years and do not receive remuneration for their activity. The members of the Com.It.Es. they are elected on the basis of lists of candidates signed by Italian citizens residing in each consular district. The Italian community residing in the Consular District of Madrid will have to elect its representatives on this occasion.
WHAT CAN THE ITALIANS DO FOR US ABROAD?
They have a consultative function for the enactment of laws for Italians residing abroad through a dialogue with consular offices and foreign constituency deputies; They collaborate with institutions to identify the social, cultural and civil needs of the Italian community and implement actions to satisfy them; They have an alert function, that is, they report problems and situations peculiar to the life of the emigrant to the competent authorities (payment of taxes, pensions, IMU, closure of cultural institutes and consular antennas, etc.); They represent the requests of the Italian community residing in the district with the Italian authorities and local institutions.
WHY THE COM.IT.ES.
Because we need accessible institutions that can listen to us and act for us. Because we want to have a weight in the decisions that affect us.
Because i Com.It.Es. must be renewed and be an expression of the different souls of the Italian communities abroad.

Caro Direttore,
verrei meno al principio cui mi sono sempre ispirato e cioe’ di essere in pace con la mia coscienza, se affermassi che venuto a conoscenza dei risultati resi pubblici dal Consolato sulle elezioni del COMITES di Toronto, di essere rimasto indifferente; ma mi ero imposto di non commentare i risultati stessi e far tacere questa, purtroppo, boccaccia che si ostina a dire quel penso e a pensare quel che dico.
E cio’ per due motivi.
