The Italian Community of Dallas celebrates the Columbus Day

DALLAS - Once more this year the Representatives of the Associations, Clubs and of the Italian Community in Dallas, United States, led by the Representative of the General Council of Italians Abroad, Vincenzo Arcobelli, gathered in the usual place Continental Avenue Bridge West Dallas Gateway, to celebrate Columbus Day.

This year there was no parade dedicated to Christopher Columbus nor the Italian festival linked to it, after the City of Dallas replaced the day dedicated to Columbus Day with the Day of the Indigenous People.

Cons. Arcobelli wanted to ask the participants for their thoughts and ideas about the event, in order to propose through a public petition and a meeting with the Mayor the restoration of the day dedicated to the Italian American Community with Columbus Day.

Again, this year the US administration through its presidential proclamation has dedicated the day of Columbus Day to the same date when is celebrated the day of the indigenous people.

"Our initiative could be partially considered - said Arcobelli - we will continue not to give up, on safeguarding the only celebration for the Italian-American community".
