Italy's turn to the right in the world press

ROME - The international press reacted to the Italian general election held yesterday where the country witnessed the victory of the right-wing coalition, and particularly for the impressive result of the far right party of Fratelli of Italy, led by Giorgia Meloni.

Comments came from newspapers around the world in various ways. Some more of them were sober, some others more fearful. Some remembered the post-fascist inheritance of the future government leader. On the other hand, news on the Italian turn towards the far right do not seem univocal. "The far right wins the elections in Italy for the first time", opens on the home page "El Pais", the Spanish newspaper, which continues: "the coalition of conservatives, post-fascists and populists, led by Giorgia Meloni, obtained 44 % of votes in both the House and the Senate ". Also from Spain, “El Mundo” headlines “Earthquake in Europe with its epicenter in Rome”. From France "Le Monde" peals: "After the victory of the far right in Italy, a shadow on the European project". Subtitle: "For the first time in a hundred years, Italy is preparing to experiment with a government dominated by the far right". And he does not mince words, calling this turn to the far right tricolor "A threat to Europe". From Germany the “Bild” headlines “Boom in Rome!”, While the “Der Spiegel” is already projected towards the future: “Passage to the right: what does it mean”. According to Der Spiegel, in fact, “The right-wing extremist Giorgia Meloni can govern Italy with an absolute majority. How much room for maneuver he has also depends on the two strong rivals within his alliance ”.On the same line is the CNN : "Giorgia Meloni will be the Prime Minister on the right since Mussolini's time".and similarly writes "The Sun" . From the United Kingdom, the titles of the “Guardian”, which also reports all the jubilant comments of the European far-right. BBC, on the other hand, headlines: "The Italian extreme right ready to take power with Meloni, first female Premier", and it is pointed out in the subtitle, the future government of Meloni will be "the furthest right since the Second World War". The New York Times headline: "Europe looks at Meloni and Italy with warines and trepidation". And then subtitles: "Giorgia Meloni claims to support Ukraine and to have moderated her harsh views on Europe, but there are doubts, given her partners". Comments also arrive from Brazil and Argentina, which between "O Globo" and "El Clarin" headline: "Giorgia Meloni the most voted, will be the first government leader with a post-fascist past".
