Houston - New life abroad and Italian Festival: May of the Houston Comites

Houston - Rediscovering oneself in a new life abroad and an Italian Festival in Austin marked recent weeks for the Houston Comites in the United States.

The first event, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural & Community Center, featured therapist Enrica Malone on May 25th. Malone provided valuable insights into the challenges of relocation and adapting to a new daily life. Monica Ercolani, Vice President of the ICC, introduced the center's activities.

Christian Di Sanzo, President of the Comites, highlighted the committee's mission to support individuals in transition. Isabella Carrino, President of the Communication Commission, presented ongoing activities, including the website, list of Italian-speaking professionals, citizen's desk, and cultural, social, and scientific endeavors. The event addressed issues such as cultural stress, social isolation, anxiety, depression, and identity concerns associated with moving abroad. Primary and secondary losses were discussed, including the separation from one's place of origin and the subsequent impacts on networks, freedom, holidays, independence, and support. The Italian Festival in Austin fostered meaningful exchanges between the Comites, Consul General Mauro Lorenzini, and the Italian community. Vice President Paolo Papi, accompanied by councilors Isabella Carrino and Chiara Dini, presented significant accomplishments achieved during the committee's first year and a half, including the website, Citizen's Desk, and List of Italian-Speaking Professionals. Notably, extraordinary funding of over $40,000 from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs supported a research and university project promoted by Councilor Salvo Saieva.

The Consul mentioned the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), facilitating access to the American market for Italian companies.
