TODAY ALDO AND FRANCESCA FROM NEW ZEALAND
Aldo of Italians in Fuga today presents us:
Francesca Benelli and Aldo Barbagallo moved to New Zealand with their family a few years ago.
Aldo is a civil engineer specializing in hydraulics. He worked for about twenty years in Algeria after which he preferred to leave it due to the problems of civil instability. Unfortunately, the job opportunities in Italy did not turn out to be as rosy as the hopes were and he therefore thought of looking for a foreign destination where to find work.
In 2001, after a detailed research phase and analysis of the possibilities offered by various destinations, Aldo "announced" to the family that there were two possibilities: Sweden or New Zealand.
The family was not very inclined to Sweden especially for the climate issue.
Other alternatives in Aldo's type of work are nations such as Algeria, in fact, or Iraq. Compared to these, New Zealand seemed like a paradise to Francesca.
New Zealand also offered discrete opportunities for 'skilled migrants', immigrants with specific skills and attractive to the New Zealand labor market.
