The rate of antibiotic resistance in Italy is seven times higher than in Scandinavia. In addition, our country ranks fifth among the countries with high income in terms of resistance to these medicines after Latvia, Ireland, Slovakia, and Spain. Prevention of hospital infections (of which 65% are antibiotic resistant) is at the lowest levels in Europe, at levels similar to those in Romania. Most antibiotics are used at the territorial level with higher percentages in the South. The data were presented yesterday during the press conference presenting the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week promoted by the World Health Organization, which includes the European Day of Antibiotics.
